Police are still searching for a hit-and-run driver who killed an El Cajon motorcyclist.
The California Highway Patrol has issued a new plea for help in solving a hit-and-run motorcycle accident that left an El Cajon man dead.
According to police reports, 40-year-old Shawn Kinzer was riding his motorcycle along I-8 in El Cajon on November 10th when he apparently lost control of the bike. He was ejected from the motorcycle and landed in the path of oncoming traffic near Mollison Avenue. It's believed that a passing car then struck Mr. Kinzer, causing him further injuries. The car, believed to be a light-colored 1997 to 2001 model Buick Park Avenue, left the scene after making contact with Mr. Kinzer.
Kinzer, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, was transported to Sharp Memorial Hospital, where he later died of his injuries.
Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the accident or who recognizes the vehicle in question to contact the Highway Patrol at (619) 401-2000.
Should police determine that the driver in this case acted negligently in causing the death of Mr. Kinzer, he may face criminal charges. The victim's family may also choose to pursue a civil claim for their loved one's wrongful death. If a suspect is apprehended in this case, the family should contact an experienced California personal injury attorney right away.
If you or a loved one has been injured or killed following a motorcycle accident, you too may have grounds for a personal injury or wrongful death claim. Under California law, individuals who act negligently, carelessly or recklessly in causing injury or death to others may be held liable for medical bills, lost wages, burial expenses and pain and suffering.
