Peter Starrs, a Seattle native and well-known skateboarder, was killed in a motorcycle accident in San Francisco over the weekend.
According to police reports, Starrs, 24, was riding his motorcycle along a connector ramp from Highway 80 to U.S. Highway 101 around 12:30 a.m. Saturday. He apparently lost control of the bike and crashed, which caused him to be ejected from the motorcycle and thrown over the railing onto the street below. Starrs was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead at approximately 2 a.m. No official cause of death has been released.
Starrs had moved to San Francisco from Seattle a year ago and continued to make a name for himself in the skateboarding community. Impromptu memorials have sprung up online, with fans posting videos of the skater in action.
Police are still investigating the fatal motorcycle accident to determine what caused the crash. At this time, it is not believed that any other motor vehicles were involved. Should investigators determine that another driver was responsible for causing Mr. Starrs' death, that person may face criminal charges.
